And change is upon us...

If you're seeing this announcement, it means everything is finally forwarding over to this new site.  I had planned on spending Saturday night and Sunday morning trying to get as much of the articles, scripts, and resource links migrated to our new site here, but just four hours after I had transferred a copy of the previous Scryptic's files to a backup location, I received notification from the old hosting company that there was a problem with the server hosting our site and needed to restore everything from a backup (which could take up to 6-8 hours).  Since we were going to be down that long anyways, I decided to  go ahead and kick off the process to have scrypticstudios.com point over to this new site.  I've been working on this new site for a number of months now in my spare time with the major goals being 1) easier to navigate and find helpful information and 2) easier for columnists to get their columns up (the new editor makes it so they don't need to know HTML to format their articles).

Here are some other niceties you'll see:

  • Single login for website and forums.
  • Profile page that allows each member of the Scryptic community to create a nice bio.  Columnists will have links to all their articles appear in their profile, and all members will have links to their latest forum posts available in their profile as well.
  • Frustrated whenever you clicked on a link to a useful research link only to have it invalid?  Now, our research/resource link database has automatic URL validation to let you know when a link's up or down (still running some tests on it, but so far, so good).
  • Read some cool piece of advice at Scryptic and couldn't remember if it was in an article or in the forums?  Well, I'm still working out some of the kinks, but the new site search here will search through both (as well as the link database... still working on getting it to search through script titles as well).
  • Easier for me to maintain.  That's more for the benefit of us behind-the-scenes people, but the less we have to spend tracking down problems and tinkering with the site, the more time we have for other things (like answering emails/questions... and writing articles).

I hope everyone likes the new changes and the new site.  You might encounter some minor hiccups here-and-there as I continue migrating articles/links over (and testing out some new features for the site), but for the most part, we're ready to go.  If you have any questions, suggestions, or comments, feel free to drop me a line via my profile here.
