Contracts between writer & artist...
Posted: 2007/04/19 07:01
I am looking for some advice or online resources to help me draft a contract between me (the writer) and an artist I would like to work with on a pitch.
I want to address payment for work done on the pitch, profit spitting if the book is picked up, and shared ownership of the property. I've scoured the web and I can't find any templates or examples to help me put this all together.
Are there any templates out there to help me write up something like this? I'm sure this is a fairly common agreement between creators. If anyone has an example of something that has worked in the past it would really help - not just me but others in the same situation.
I want to conduct this as professionally as possible, and I would like to use the funds I have to pay an art team - not to go broke paying a lawyer.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Hollywood Comics has a great sample writer/artist collaboration agreement/contract here.
The site also has some good notes/samples on option agreements, gallery agreements, etc.

Heck, while I'm at it, here's another site to check. DJ has put up there all sorts of various contracts for all sorts of various situations a comic artist might find him/herself in.
