I like what Mignola does with his Hellboy characters. The stories are told when they are ready to be told. He doesn't just make monthly comics because they will sell.

That's certainly the plan with ArchEnemies as well.
It's a fine strategy, though not always practical from a market standpoint. Long running TV shows like ER have been good and bad at various points in their run. (I guess.) But if ER ever gets cancelled, it's done.
Most shows don't have the "luxury" of the BBC's Doctor Who which was able to take 15 years off and come back better than ever.
