Caleb Monroe's MAKING GOOD
Posted: 2006/11/21 03:30
This is the official discussion thread for my new column Making Good.

This week's column needs your participation! So go read it, then vote in the poll which is visible at the top of this very page under the header "Scryptic Polls." Just click where it says "Making Good - Genre" and vote. But go read the column first so you can be an informed voter.

So. If I can be allowed to summarize...

Read my column.

That was a nice debut for your new column, Caleb.

I'm glad to see that it's not just me who finds himself nearly consumed with this whole writing thing. Sometimes it can be a real stress-bomb, particulary when I feel a conflict between family matters and the need to write. So I will look forward to seeing how you address some of these issues that we all face, and I hope we will get a good turnout here on the boards as people discover the new columns.

I voted crime, just because I really miss NYPD Blue and think an ensemble crime drama would make for a really satisfying comic book.

Thanks, Elton!

When I look at the poll results, there isn't one for "Crime," so you may want to try again...

Right now it's Comedy, Science Fiction and Historical, with Historical in the lead!

(And I know what you mean. It's basically my own practical concerns about balancing life and writing that have led to my column being what it is.)

Great first column, Caleb.

Not being a writer, I don't know what I can add to the dialogue but I will say that I find the act of writing a very daunting experience. I'm a great starter but a horible finisher. I can never come up with an ending to most of the stuff I attempt to write. Oh sure, I can write a great opening scene... but from there on in I get lost in the hugeness of all the possible directions the story could go in.

So, instead of living life in fustration, I draw other people's stories!

Looking forward to reading more MAKING GOOD columns, man!

Props on a solid opening to a great idea, Caleb. Watching a peer go through the development process is a wonderful way to open up dialogue.

Congrats and good luck!

I finally got my Crime vote counted. It seems like the poll doesn't like Firefox, but when I did it in IE7 it worked.
