Elton,

Good series of columns you have going on here. I am finding it increasingly difficult to apply the "BUTT IN CHAIR" methodology of late.

I don't know if it is writers block, lack of motivation, stress, depression or feelings of failure, but it is so hard to actually have a book out that people seem to enjoy and know in the back of your mind that there may never be a follow-up series due to lack of a publisher.

I have other ideas outside of Revere in the works and I even have an awesome new artist to work with, but I just can't seem to get it in gear and get the wrting done!

Suggestions?

Ed

Words to live by...but there is still one obstacle to overcome, one that exists even when one's butt is firmly planted in one's chair:

SCREEN SUCKING

I once heard a screenwriter describe how his office is an internet-free zone so he can actually work. That's my dream one day...

Hey Ed, it's great to see you over here, man! Drop me an email (or else I'll go first) and let's catch up some more.

But in the meantime, it sounds to me like the stress of not knowing who or even if the publisher will be, is your #1 enemy conspiring against you and causing the writers block, lack of motivation, depression and feelings of failure.

I'm about to have to run out for a while so I can't elaborate like I'd like to. I haven't been in your situation exactly, or even that close to it, but I have had a lot of ups and downs in wondering when/if I'll find a publisher for a little project of my own that's been cooking up for some time now. And sometimes it's been hard to really focus on the writing aspect, for worrying so much about if it'll even be published.

All I know to say right now is if you can find a way to separate the two, and write for the creative reward and the pride in what you are accomplishing as an artist and creator, and somehow trick your brain into not sweating the publisher angle while you're focused on writing -- maybe that could possibly help out some.

Gotta run -- shoot me an email why don't ya?

Elton, I really enjoyed your latest column. Finding the time to write is a HUGE challenge for me. Also, I write all day at work (I work in the media), so the idea of coming home to write is not too exciting.

I spent years talking about how I was going to be a writer (and then going off to surf the net!) ... It is only in 2006 that I started to do something about it. The great news is that the reward is coming in 2007, when my first published works should be on the spinner racks

Sometimes the insights in your column terrify me; we seem to be tracking along similar lines of ideas. Are you hacking into my computer and stealing my ideas for The Story Factory?

Just kidding ...
