Bryan Singer was recently speaking at a college in Hawaii where he said that he has been approached to direct the next X-MEN movie, but he says he turned it down because he wouldn't have time for it.
He also said while he wasn't interested in X4, he would be interested in reading the WOLVERINE script.
This brings up two interesting points:
1) There WILL be another X-MEN movie, apparently. To all those who said 3 was the last ... well, here y'go.
2) Why did the studio ask Singer and not Ratner? Is Ratner still on board? If so, how does he feel about the studio going back to Singer? And if he's not doing the movie, then why?

I'd hardly say X-Men 3 is terrible. It's far better than the first, and is only different from the second in that it is a lot more action orientated, sacrificing story for action. WHICH I LIKE!! Ratner directed the Rush Hour movies, which have all been fun, Red Dragon, which isn't really that bad although it obviously hasn't got anything on Manhunter and After the Sunset which is an enjoyable movie all round!! I wouldn't blame Ratner for the general view on X-Men 3's "failure". He was the third director attached and had limited time to do what he did. He is a good directed, and the result, in my opinion, was a fantastic comic-book action movie.
